The crying and screaming of a baby is meant to be annoying, I think, to make you want to do something to shut it up. Is a sound that goes right through me, too.

For me, that 'something' would not be evolutionary advantageous, I fear

I would say I've felt like that at times. Perhaps why I don't consider myself a 'natural'!

It's a horrible and utterly serious subject, but I've often genuinely thought it's amazing how few parents do end up strangling their kids, having seen just how draining and above all relentless it can be, even for young selfless dedicated married couples with big support networks - how any single parent copes is incomprehensible to me.

Absolutely. I punched a hole in my kid's bedroom door once, remarkable restraint I thought.

PS It was one of those v thin plywood panelled doors. I ain't the incredible hulk.

Totally get that. For me, the tiny baby part was mainly just awful as far as I recall. I hated it, and feel guilty every day.

Absolutely, and hold down a job and still appear on the outside to be happy and chirpy. Take my bloody hat off to them every day. I couldn't do it and earns my respect that's for sure.

loads of kids, esp lads , start to go wrong at about 17 -18.
These same parents, stick by them. equally incomprehensible to me.
admittedly a lot of the lads sort themselves out a few years later, but it's such a display of parental committment

                  amazes me
