I think Charles could be one of the posters you banned earlier today......

I think he needs a ban too!

My journey is 2 hrs (ish) each way (bus to Birm Intl, then train to London Euston, and a 15 min walk to office), prefer it to when I has a 75-90 min drive at my previous place, can work or relax on the train, no problem getting a seat and its pretty comfy, not cheap though costs approx £900 a month (but I am earning a lot more that I would be closer to home), the longs days do still catch up with you by the end of the week...

Well, considering the London daily commute now. 1.45 from Cymru to London. 30 mins tube then. Hmmm. I reckon leave home by 6am on site by 8-30am. Home by 7-30 with any luck.

Weird thing is a day return is £200. Bargain,eh? But a 7 day season ticket is only £322 (inc tube pass).
Not sure if daily like this is going to do my chunk so maybe staying over a night or two would be the plan. But, of course, with train ticket paid for its extra cost (but maybe worth it for my sanity!).

I guess a lot though depends on what the train is like. If its packed out, sweaty and smelly it aint gonna be nice. 1st class would be nice but thats another £300 lol.

I'm used to two hour each way drives down congested motorways
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

Is that a euphemism for dropping by Mrs suity while her old man is in London.

Would mean (probably) train at 6-30am ish (10 min drive to train station) getting to office at 8-15am (10 min walk other end). Then hopefully, getting home about 6-30pm.

Might work - as I've said before it depends on the client I guess.

Cost wise season ticket aint too bad. Works out £42 a day. Driving probably not an option because its 100+ miles so 2 hrs+.

Anyone else suck up such a train journey? Obviously, trains have their disadvantages and advantages but wondered how much it does your head in.....
                  Last gig was similar :
                  6.40 leave house
                  20 mins to station
                  7.30 train arr 08:10
20 mins to client site, arrive circa 8.30
Left client at 4.30 for reverse journey, in about 6.30ish depending on train delays etc.

                  1st week a bit of a killer
                  1st month used to it
After 6 months though was not really good for anything at the weekends that involved ANY sort of travel.

Like others here, I work with people that commute 2 to three hours each way, so it really depends on how each individual can use the travel time : work, home admin, snooze or whatever on the train.

Nice in principle. I tried that attitude but after 5 months on the bench caved in. If demand is high for your skillset in your area then brilliant - if it isn't then you have to go where the work is. Not nuts, just the way it is !

I live a lot closer than you, and it's no better.
My commute starts at 07:00 with a drive to the local station, 5 minute train to town, change trains then about
45 minutes to London (packed and smelly), queue for 10 minutes for Waterloo and City line, then a 10 minute walk, getting me into the office just after 09:00.
Leaving between 17:00 and 17:30 gets me home either 19:00 or 19:30.

I was also looking at 1st class - previously I was charging my client 1st class travel, but now a 7 day ticket costs me £118 with Travelcard, and would jump to £190 for 1st class (or £220 if I just get the train ticket and no Travelcard ).

Pfft. Luxury. Used to do that when I worked in Leeds.

Commuting on a train? Luxury if you can get a seat - get a season ticket and reserve your seat.

                      Get over yerself.
