Have worked with people who commute in from Paris on the eurostar daily (cheaper apparently than living in london and travel ) and they are based in the London office and also worked with several people who commute in from the Isle of Wight

If you do it you will wish that you hadn't. My advice would be to make sure you get the rate right so that you can take the odd day off, if working at home not feasible.

Those on the Eurostar can get a seat.

Don't know where you are so can't say about the Isle of Wight.

Cheers OG. Rate is good-ish. Not superb but OK. I know what you mean - don't want to be up against it and not able to afford to take time off.

I also find flexibility in working hours is helpful. If I do 9 to 5 in the office, I am out the door at 7 and back at 6:45. But I find it makes a big difference to be able to - from time to time - have breakfast with the kids and be out 8 to 7:45, or be out 6 to 5:45 for an 8 to 4 or 10 to 6 working day respectively. Don't know why it makes it better but it seems to.

It is worth also thinking about staying one night away per week even on an occasional basis - it will cost you more because your season ticket is the same, but you may be able to go in late / work late one day, stay overnight and start early / leave early.

Finally, don;t forget you can get odd period season tickets for > 1 month. If you are getting a 1 month season ticket that ends on a Thursday, get a 1 month + 1 day season ticket that ends on a Friday and then get a new one starting on the Monday.

There's a long journey in NL?

But, at least with me, I always got my travel expenses fully refunded in NL. That was back in the day, not sure if they still do.

Not in terms of distance, no, but it is quite impressive how the Dutch railways can make a journey of less than 100 miles last several hours in an overcrowded train with all the bogs out of order.
