I would be astounded if one could obtain an exemption to race and sexuality discrimination laws. Genuinely surprised. -

Sorry, but that makes no sense at all. We are discussing organisations exempt from sexual and racial discrimination lawsComment

Now I wonder, can you think of a business which might make films? Go on, have a guess.Originally posted by Hawk View PostWhich business is that?

You are allowed to ask for a male or female carer if you need personal care just like you are allowed to ask for a male or female doctor if you need treatment.Originally posted by Hawk View PostI would be astounded if one could obtain an exemption to race and sexuality discrimination laws. However with carers because some people need them long term they are allowed to advertise for a male or female carer.
There is an exemption from the equality laws for these cases."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

Dating agencies/adult contacts etc too one assumes.
As for original question, if Cof E gets exemption why not other religions?
Personally I don't see why any of them should get it unless they are prepared to reform all equality laws to respect the personal beliefs of others too. If I was running a club or whatever and refused to admit religious people on the grounds that I objected to religious practices and viewpoints, would I be within be my right to do so? Probably not. Why is irrationality always a get out?
The religious are always claiming discrimination while simultaneously demanding the right to discriminate. Such laws should treat us all equally or not exist.bloggoth

Did they ask at the right time?Originally posted by xoggoth View PostAs for original question, if Cof E gets exemption why not other religions?
An atheist society or a charity founded on humanist principles could possibly get exemption allowing it to discriminate against hiring religious people on the basis that supporting the organisation's ethos is a requirement for the job.Personally I don't see why any of them should get it unless they are prepared to reform all equality laws to respect the personal beliefs of others too. Are you honestly using that as a reference?Originally posted by d000hg View PostNow I wonder, can you think of a business which might make films? Go on, have a guess.
So, correct me if I am wrong, what you are saying is that, for example, if a film was made about Martin Luther King and his opposition to slavery, they'd have an exemption to properly portray said MLK by employing only a black person?
Are you saying this is having an exemption from discrimination laws, and is on the same level as a religion being able not to perform a ceremony which is someones human right?
Are you, seriously trying to link the two? One an exemption for artistic purposes and only for that film, not all their work, and the other a blanket exemption as they dont want to?
If you are, well, I am quite shockedComment
