So what? (serious question)Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishing -
I am thinking that if a religious organisation is given the right to decide one way or the other, and then they opt/choose not to allow gay marriage, then that decision could be challenged at the ECHR for being a discriminatory decision.Originally posted by d000hg View PostI found it weird CofE wanted to be exempt from having to make the choice, since the new laws explicitly state no church can be pressured into doing gay marriage or sued for refusing to do it.
BUT if CofE can have an exemption, why not other groups. Seems a bit of a pickle to me, whichever side of the fence you're on.
But with CofE, they don't have any choice - they cannot make any decision, so cannot be challenged directly at the ECHR.
What I don't understand is why the CoE needs this extra layer of protection - and yet other organisations do not.Comment

OK, I can see some attempt at trying to avoid what the point was so I'll clear that up.Originally posted by d000hg View PostNo, businesses aren't allowed to marry anyone.
From what I understand, the CoE are allowed to opt out of performing marriage between two homosexuals, contrary to discriminiation laws.
Businesses are not allowed to opt out of discrimination laws.Comment
