Also seems like those that do get picked often don't make great parents at all. Neighbours of ours have two adopted girls. Their approach to parenting seems to be one of sitting back and hoping (praying) for the best. Hence the girls are completely out of control. But I suspect they had an easier time than many couples wishing to adopt, with their super religiously active, church-going background. It's quite infuriating how many people have such a tough time trying to adopt. :-(

Take a look at your profile pic. I think it's probably for the best that you don't bring a child into this world!

Didn't want kids until a few years into living with my partner and his wee ones. Also only doing it now because I know from experience that he's a more than involved dad. With the average male, I'd have never considered reproduction.
        I'm not the mommy-type.

I wouldn't worry about it. You can make a legacy on earth without having kids.

Kids may not turn out how you wish in any event.

My old school friend has a daughter. He paid for her university, all expenses, a new car while at university and another new car when she left. He asker her if she could help paint the garage door to which she replied, how much will you pay me.

Brother in-law paid all expenses for his son to go to the USA and study masters in computer science. He just finished and has asked for money to by an apartment upfront. he does not even send his dad a birthday card. BTW, 4 years at Uni in USA has taught f/a in real computing.

Not just negative but pathetic. Anyone could say that in any age.

I'd like to have kids but I wouldn't like them to grow up in London. Also I'm not a millionaire (yet) and wouldn't want to have the kids disadvantaged by not being to give them the best of everything (and I don't mean being spoilt I mean education, activities, holidays etc).

So that sums up my sad outlook on these things.
Translation: I wouldn't want to be disadvantaged by having to spend money on the kids which I could have spent on myself.

You do sound sad, but not in the way you think.

That might change quite soon. Btw - are you a yank? "mommy"?

It's unlikely to work in that case, as she's had her tubes removed.

Then you suspect wrong. Religious people I know some who've adopted faced the same kind of suspicion from social workers as UKIP voters.

Agreed - it's utterly ridiculous. My wife is asian, I'm caucasian. We'd find it difficult to adopt any kid that wasn't mixed race - despite the fact that the missus is culturally almost entirely British.

in fact the past 20 odd years since the end of the cold war have possibly been some of the stable and peaceful in all of human history (for us westerners anyway)
