Figures reveal five million on out of work benefits as Grayling pledges to make work pay - DWP

The figures published today by the Office for National Statistics show that while the number of people in employment has risen over the last quarter, this was largely driven by a rise in the employment of non UK nationals.

Britain: Employment tribunal rules Gate Gourmet strike illegal

A leaked internal company document published in the Times on August 14, 2005, makes clear that Gate Gourmet was intent on provoking a dispute. Its plan was to “Recruit, train and security check drivers.... Announce intention to trade union, provoking unofficial industrial action from staff. Dismiss current workforce. Replace with new staff.
Gate Gourmet says it could go bust if BA rejects deal - Telegraph

Referring to Gate Gourmet's decision to replace sacked workers with casual staff, he said: "They say the eastern Europeans are cheaper. Most of us were earning around £1,000 a month.
"Out of that money, most went on income tax, council tax, mortgages and of course feeding our families. We have been very good workers. I don't have a blemish on my record and that goes for everyone I can think of. We have been treated like dirt."
The majority of affected workers are south Asian women who helped prepare the in-flight meals.
plenty more out there, but this was the one that convinced me it was all intentional.

Unlike other headline cases where someone is claiming £75k for a 6-bedroom London town-house, this woman is claiming the princely sum of £15k a year, on which to feed and house herself and her children. If she didn't have £2k left over, there is no story here... £15k for a family is not luxury or benefits gone mad, it's a reasonable amount needed.

It's 15k's worth of theft quite simply.

            That is the issue.

Then I'm sure she won't mind repaying the 2k, if ever there was a reason to have a benefits debit card this would be it.

                  exactly

benefits should be available to stop people starving and put a roof over their heads.

It is not a substitute for working and so any luxuries - and by luxuries I mean Beer, fags, designer label clothes, expensive computer equipment, Sky Tv, ready meals consisting of meat filled with cheese etc should not be availble to people who do not work

it is that simple - a generation of that and you will get rid of your dole dependant families

Why? In many countries that level of subsistence living is all the majority aspire to.

Then we offer that and the unemployed will be happy! I have no problem paying dole at that level, combine that with forced education & work and I suspect the jobless numbers would fall quite quickly.

Listen to the squeals about capping benefits at £26,000 after tax.
