Can you just stick MP3s on an SD card and stick it in an iPad to play them? Or do you need iTunes to put music and things on it as well?
There is no SD card or USB port on an iPad, the official way is that everything needs to be sync'd via iTunes, however you can FTP directly to the device

No you need to buy them from iTunes.

Yeah, but you have to put FTP on the iPad in the first instance.

          There's an app for that...

(I am of course joking, I don't have an iPad, I have a "Viewsonic 10s" that currently things it's a VEGA running Vega(Honey)comb. But then again I like tinkering.)

The point I'm making is that the #2 spot in phones is sewn up for the next few years - either Apple or Android. But on tablets, even Android is struggling, so MS/Google are actually on a fairly level footing trying to get a few % of the market.

MS will have Office on ARM and for the business world, that might be enough to make W8 the business tablet, a valuable slice of money.

I don't see people using a tablet to do office work on, its more for home use or specialized business use like in hospitals for show xrays etc. Can't see someone trying to create a complex spreadsheet on a tablet device. Android will become the most popular tablet OS then iOS, windows will be a distant 3rd as they are far too late to the party.

Is there an echo in here? Oh no, it's just you repeating the same stuff over and over.

Not supporting Flash was a risky move for Apple but it's clear they've won on this one by now, and are partly responsible for Adobe moving to HTML5.

As for media formats... iOS supports H264 with is the world default for streaming video.

Still a few times a week I have to move over to my laptop to view a site that cannot run on iPad. I don't give a tulip if in 10 years the world will be Flash Free it isn't NOW!!!!!!!!! GET IT!!! NOW"!!!!!!!!!

So the iOS is a great device if you have a time machine, all those oggs, mpegs, swf etc will be converted at some point..won't they????

Tablets have a great use as an electronic clipboard both in offices and out in the field. You mention hospitals... that's hardly a small market. Imagine if NHS made a tablet a standard tool for nurses?

I don't think they are too late... Android hasn't got anywhere either yet. And Adroid has the problem it isn't seen as a brand, you currently have "Apple" and "not Apple". MS can (if they do it right) capitalise on that.

I see it quite often. Not massive spreadsheets but notetaking, emails and so forth. They have all been using iPads. I can definitely see the windows ones catching on if they integrate well into existing setups e.g. supporting AD, windows file servers, exchange and so on. It'll be another thing that corporate folk have, just like they all have laptops, docking stations, monitors and so on now.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'
