As it happens, I started this regime at the end of last October, and actually lost most of my weight during the cold dark nights.
Mind you, after this summer it is difficult to distinguish between the seasons.
Summer? What's that??

Anyone fancy joining me to lose a pound or twenty of lard?
Need to shift at least a stone. Two wouldn't go amiss.
Not into dieting or self deprivation. But sensible eating, cutting out the crap and doing more excercise can't be that hard, can it? And maybe a bit of moderation on the vino too.
Did that a couple of years ago - lost a stone over a year. Basically swapped coke for diet cock, lattes for black coffee, cakes for bananas and apples and no mars bars or crisps.
I'm having to do it again as I've gone back from 12st8 to 14st!!?? The lastest gig has a cook trained in sweet goods who makes fresh cakes everyday. Ooops. I even joined a gym though as my Mrs is taking me to the beach in Novemebr and doesn't want my lardy belly blocking her sun.

I've done the same more or less plus I force myself to go for a walk every lunch time, gone from 13st12 to 13st4 in just a few weeks.
Belt went in another notch this morning.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson
Down to middle of my target range and BMI is below 25 now. I have a routine that seems to be working for me so am happy.
Don't worry about it; my BMI's been over 30 since I was 19 and started strength training. If you've got some muscle bulk, don't worry about BMI. By the way, the All Blacks rugby captain Richie McCaw has a BMI of 32, making him dangerously obese according to insurers; he's possibly the fittest man on the planet.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014
still running and weight training most every day. loving it too. am fitter at 46 than i have ever been. weight is off and staying off. even a two week holiday didn't impact it - which was a surprise though the exercise in the first few weeks back was tough. it is time for an updated wardrobe - i've had enough of baggy trousers.
This is the right approach. If you've trained for a few months then a one to two week break will probably only make you fitter, but don't stop for three weeks!

I am not convinced. Following the incident where the tree jumped in front of my bike, I spent 2 weeks trying to train and it hurt. Alot. So I finally had to take a week off. My fitness never recovered - though it might be that in those 3 weeks I went up around 5kg.
Certainly a couple of days off can be good. But you don't have to do much to keep the muscles "patterned". For instance while tapering, on the advice of Dallas, I had 3 days where I did a 10 minute warm up followed by 3 minutes of hard exercise. On the 4th day I was raring to go!
BTW I love the bike stories. And your points about BMI are spot on.
