I've been lurking on this thread for a few weeks....
I'm in the situation the I need to lose a load of weight (BMI > 45) and I signed up for Lighter Life after seeing how effective it was for a mate of mine. He got down to his target weight in May last year and he's managed to keep it off (which is the hardest part).
I've been on it since the beginning of the week and my initial reservations about feeling hungry when embarking on a VLCD have proved to be unfounded.
It's not the cheapest option and both my wife and myself are on it and both want to lose somewhere between 30kg - 40kg. We've tried various other diets and they seem to go on for ever...this is the short sharp shock option.. 12 - 16 weeks of no regular food.
Only problem is you have to increase your water intake to compensate for the water content normally found in regular food.... spend all day drinking water and peeing
According to our household scales, I've already lost 2kg in 3 days and it's not uncommon to lose 6kg in the first week as your body starts to consume it's own fat to provide energy.
We have a target of hitting 33% of what we want to lose by 6th April and if so I'll buy a couple of air tickets for a holiday in July...Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magicComment

Are you doing any exercise?Comment

Not doing any exercise yet, but I'm led to believe that after the 4th day your energy levels start to rise and we're planning a walk around our local lake (about 2 miles) on Saturday afternoon.
I'm also busy getting a couple of bikes in proper running order so we can go out for rides after work as the nights are starting to get lighter.Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magicComment

Up 1lb this week. Not great, but hey, its not 2lbs.
No step-daughter or daughter at home for a few weeks so hopefully we can get back on track as we don't have to worry about cooking meals, they like, for them.Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.Comment
