Experiences like this are a very unreliable guide Paddy. Even in the very worst areas, and I've lived in a couple too, the chances of any one individual getting mugged or attacked are very small. The only reliable guide in these things are official statistics or reports from reputable sources that use them.

Antisemitic attacks have risen very significantly in recent years and, given the pattern of peaks during middle east troubles, it probably mostly isn't the far right doing it. Some might be leftists perhaps. Are the Independent and Gordon Brown unracist enough for you?

As in one of the previous threads, when I was at by BTL property I was subject to harassment from Mosque goers of Afghan origin telling me that to get out because it is a Muslim area however, they are in a minority and are even criticised by other Muslims. The reason for these extremists being in the UK is that they have been thrown out of their own country because they are extremist. It our governments fault for letting them in.

Regarding Lauren Booth, she is certainly not doing the west’s view of Islam any good by dressing up in that way, it’s a bit OTT and my Iranian friends say the same. In Iran all that is required is women the were a headscarf not the full gear that Lauren Booth wears. With all it’s bad points, Iran is not an extremist Islamic country it even has the second largest Jewish population in the Middle East and has many Synagogues and Jewish MPs.

Depends what you mean, the Iranian people themselves appear much more tolerant than their regime and I'm sure many would like to be shot of it. There are not the attacks on others you get in Pakistan or Bangladesh. As for the regime itself though, it as as about extremist as one can get.

Generally, this appears true among the richer/more stable Islamic states, it the governments who are the main problem.

I used to live in a Jewish area of Glasgow, the synagogue is fortified. They even have their own golf club which some fruit loop went up in the middle of the night and poured acid over all the greens to mark out the swastika.
