If I were to walk the streets of the district that is obviously home to our friend who posted the video and announce that I was Jewish I doubt I'd get out alive. (perhaps a little east of there)
Yes, phobia is an irrational fear, but I don't think anyone thinks that homophobics have an irrational fear of gay people. Similarly islamaphobia isn't an irrational fear of islam; at worst a hatred of islam, at best a distrust of islam.

Frankly, as it's a religion, I've no time for it either, though as I was brought up Catholic you'll struggle to hear me say a good word about any religion, particularly catholicism - an utterly abhorrent, hypocritical, corrupt religion (at least most of the people involved in the religion are).

I'm not worried about people converting to Islam in this country. I celebrate the freedom of choice people have here. I'm not worried by the number of people who are Jedis either. I don't have a problem with islam-friendly mortgages and loans which seem fair enough to me. Sharia law would be another matter, but is unlikely to become the law of the land any time soon, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

You're the one talking Bollocks pal. There have been a number of cases of orthodox Jews being beaten up by Bangladeshis/ Pakistanis in the east end. Don't read much about it in the main stream media though. Funny that.

The "bollocks" I was referring to your was your "In the blood" comment. I don't doubt there are beatings going on - though I do find it interesting you are not using the word Muslim, but are referring to their ethnicity.

Well according to the Jewish chronicle, they are by and large mostly 2nd generation South Asians.

Having worked there for several years I doubt that. I used to get my smoked salmon bagels from the Jewish deli opposite the mosques, there was never any trouble.

PS. I doubt if you are Jewish.

Which means they are either Bangladeshi or Pakistani??? Me thinks there are lot of countries you've missed in South Asia.
Carry on with the brown-hate though...its growing.

South Asian generally refers to the Indian Subcontinent.

The brown hate thing is a bit of a cheap shot. I've had a few licks of the tarbrush myself!

Experiences like this are a very unreliable guide Paddy. Even in the very worst areas, and I've lived in a couple too, the chances of any one individual getting mugged or attacked are very small. The only reliable guide in these things are official statistics or reports from reputable sources that use them.

Antisemitic attacks have risen very significantly in recent years and, given the pattern of peaks during middle east troubles, it probably mostly isn't the far right doing it. Some might be leftists perhaps. Are the Independent and Gordon Brown unracist enough for you?
