History, of course. Being on the receiving end of it is in your blood & you know what it's like so you don't dish it out. That's the racism part. As for Islamophobia? Well a phobia is an irrational fear. My apprehensions regarding Islam are hardly irrational. If I were to walk the streets of the district that is obviously home to our friend who posted the video and announce that I was Jewish I doubt I'd get out alive. I don't quite see that either but why not address the much more relevant point he makes TL? Which is the previous paragraph.
I'm not getting at you really as you don't normally, but I do notice this over and over again on this board, people make a point, especially if they back it up with any actual evidence or cite actual experience and it gets ignored. Instead there is just abuse or a siezure on some trivial point of language or a spelling mistake. People who do IT for a living should be better than this.Last edited by xoggoth; 4 January 2011, 22:16.bloggoth

During the Spanish Inquisition wasn't it your forefathers who fled and sought sanctuary in the north African Maghrib? Were they outed and slaughtered as you suggest might happen to you should you walk the streets of London? Ofcourse not, they still have large communities who live in peace and for your information shariah law was far more prevalent then than it is now. Go learn your own history and you might learn to appreciate the level of tolerance that was meted out to your co-religionists.Originally posted by pacharan View Post...If I were to walk the streets of the district that is obviously home to our friend who posted the video and announce that I was Jewish I doubt I'd get out alive. Here we go again, Islamic tolerance proved by reference to a highly airbrushed (ignoring two major massacres and a mass expulsion of Jews, not to mention 5 centuries of decimation of the European coastline by Barbary pirates) history of dark/middle ages in Spain and North Africa .
Sure Christianity used to suck, may even have been worse, but those of us without time machines think that it's today that matters. Giving examples of the tolerance of modern Islamic societies is rather more relevant, why don't people do that? I'll start. There's Oman and er erm er Oman. Oman, did I mention that one? Even the best of the rest (probably Algeria) has significant issues on rights of women and non Muslims. The latter are officially excluded from the presidency and, in practice, any significant government role at all.Last edited by xoggoth; 4 January 2011, 22:52.bloggoth

Malaysia? Nope. Criminal charge to leave Islam or for other religions to attempt to convert Muslims, or to belong to Arqam (a heretic Muslim sect), difficult in practice to build non Muslim places of worship, lack of equality in family law like divorce or child custody.Last edited by xoggoth; 5 January 2011, 09:45.bloggoth
