Religious freedom and the right to express ones want to their religion is something we spent hundreds of thousands of young men to fight against with their lives. She can do whatever she wants in my opinion, if she is happy then I am happy, why are people against her right to live the way she wants to live?

Intolerance is the main problem, not her new found religion.

If someone has genuinely found faith in something then fine. My grievance is that she has been popping up everywhere with her "look at me" teenage schoolgirl routine since her conversion.

Some of what she has said has been beyond parody. A few weeks ago in the Telegraph she was saying she'd been reading a page of the quran every night since her conversion and that she was currently on page 30!

...Anyway, back to Ms Booth, she fielded several calls from critics and prefixed several of her answers with "The Prophet says...blah blah blah". She even called one caller "brother". And she's only been one for 3 months! FFS somebody shoot her!

There is no compulsion in religion. Why should her freedom to convert rattle your cage? You most certainly wouldn't the echo same sentiments had she converted to hinduism or bhudism would you?

So we should tolerate Nazis? We should qualify that a bit, tolerate those who tolerate others. Check out the details of Islam on reputable sites like the US State department pages on human rights, women's rights groups or the Guardian/Independent/BBC. With the exception of Oman, tolerance of non Muslims and women's rights as we understand them do not exist.

Here's an article from todays Independent relating to British converts to Islam. Certainly issues on human/women's rights wasn't a factor in their reason to convert to the religion.

Probably, yes because she'd have done the whole "look at me I'm a Buddhist aren't I weird" routine. Have to confess Im at a loss as to why a woman would want to convert to Islam though other than the reasons outlined in my OP.

Indeed, you should see the lingerie shops in Saudi shopping malls. They also don't seem to prim and proper to haul them burqas up around their waists at the side of the road when they need to go!

Why should you feel at loss given the fact that the majority of converts are women? It may be a load of bollocks to your train of thought but an article of faith in their rationale. Perhaps this interview with a female convert might help you understand why some women choose to accept the religion despite the routine negative publicity it receives from the media.
