        If they are not dealt with now, and by that I mean expelling any that are not working, then the problem will get much worse. 90% of the beggars round these parts are roma, 80% selling the big issue are roma. We have allowed a group who will never integrate and will always rely upon crime into the country.

          You call this "teetering";

          They get what they deserve. You can't blame the Eastern Europeans for hating them. They are the perfect definition of parasites (or Untermenschen, like it's said in Germany).

          Bear in mind that the phrase 'they get what they deserve' comes in reponse to my posting that gypsies had been subject to torchings of camps, their children had been attacked by skinheads and they are now being attacked by an extreme right wing paramilitary group in Hungary.

          If you call that 'teetering' you are exceptionally patient.

          Disgusting if you ask me.

          Fair enough that people have strong views, but justifying the torching of homes and violence toward children just can't have a place around here.

            A wandering minority whose case is no different from the Jews. If the Jews got Israel, they should get their own country, preferably in the place they came from originally: India.

              and the term Untermenschen is not one used in Germany since the 40s.

                After some debating behind the scenes - Cojak and I have agreed that the act of removing MIB from the board strikes the correct balance between free-speech, and the defence of rational debate from such venomous undertones. Good riddance.

                  A bit of a shame this kind of discussion gets hijacked by extremists.

                  I can see there's a real issue here that needs a longer term solution. Unfortunately many of the attempts at a 'solution' in Europe have ended in revolting crimes against humanity.

                  Somehow the EU as a whole will need to find ways in which gypsies can live alongside us, adapting to some extent to the customs of others, and keeping within reasonable laws (obviously, we can't expect them to respect any law which makes their life impossible or is based on racist premises), while in return they get the protection of their lives and safety that all other Europeans have come to expect.

                  I don't fancy watching the news to see that gypsies have been subject to attacks somewhere in eastern Europe and that they´d just been deported by Britain or France or Holland´s ´democratic´ governments.

                  Xog´s right that the EU didn´t apply enough pressure to eastern European countries to get their human rights in order, and should be doing so now. However, the French policy threatens to undermine any moral authority the western governments may have.

                  Somehow we need to ensure we can take the high ground, so as to push governments in eastern Europe to get their act together.

                    While we bend over backwards to accommodate the theiving scum, what are they going to do to assist in their integration?

                      Where do some of you live?

                      I'm based in Berkshire and haven't seen a mass of Roma's but perhaps I'm not looking hard enough.

                      I know one area in my town has had some issues with them but not to the extent mentioned here.
