An explanation on bashing for the uninitiated. Bashing refers to the the activity of riding on locomotive hauled rolling stock. Normally this will be on a railtour organised by one of the bashing societies most of which have a preference for bashing a particular class of locomotive. Regular readers of my posts will know that I am a member of the Peak Army (the SAS of bashing) who have a fondness for being pulled by class 44,45 and 4locomotives - all named after British mountains hence the name Peak.
Sometimes, bashers will go to great lengths to bash a loco in regular service. Often one will travel to the other end of the country just to undergo a 10 mile journey because one has heard on the bush telegraph that such and such a loco is hauling that service. Often , the information turns out to be unrelianble but the biggest downside to bashing locos in regular service is the presence of normals.
Firstly I just resent them being there because they have no appreciation of anything rail related and their attitude to a bunch of middle aged men with cameras shouting things like 'Dreadful', 'My Lordz' and 'Hellfire' also leaves a lot to be desiredComment
