The last time I had to stand on a train was when I bought a computer. Ready to pick up at 16:30 they said so I was there prompt. Hit the rush hour so couldn't find a seat with space to park the computer so stood instead.

The time before that must have been in the UK.

Oh, got a come hither look from a lady when getting on the train, but I wanted to monitor digger/island progress and that meant a seat upstairs. Sad really.

The diggers have now built a road from the river bank to the island, and the island has grown substantially. They are obviously trucking gravel in from elsewhere.

Train on time and the mixed grill cooked to perfection. Seats comfy and carriage nice and quiet.

Waterloo and city line ****ed again.

Train on time. Diggers still building their island.

Bus won't go into gear but after some apparently random pushing of buttons and several muttered curses by the driver it sets off. At the first stop someone gets on and tries to buy a ticket. Trouble with the ticket machine ensues and the driver finally erupts with "I hate this bus".

Bus several minutes late dropping me off.

Still can't believe you did not follow up on that "come hither" look! Just think what you could have missed??

            Must be getting old.

Train on time today. Now 3 diggers working on the island.

Passenger on bus asks for a return ticket and is told 2 singles are cheaper. That's 'cos the next ticket up is valid for the whole day, as many trips as you want.

2 double decker carriages, space in first class. Cold. No smells. No OAPs. Information boards at station were not working due to a 'technical error'.

Up to now no problems; on time, lots of carriages, plenty of seats, heating at comfortable temperature, no smells or OAPs. Electricity socket available and working.

It can really only go downhill from here.

                  UPDATE!!!

Train now stopping and starting repeatedly close to Utrecht. Also, I have deduced from the telephone conversation of the person behind me that he is a recruitment agent. I knew it was all going too smoothly.

                    More BREAKING NEWS!!!

Train now travelling very slowly around banked curve, leading to spectacular falling of several coffee cups from seat back tables.

Train has now stopped. Awaiting announcement.

                      ANNOUNCEMENT!!!

Pro-rail (the Dutch network operator, known to many passengers as Anti-Rail), have sent out a 'Sprinter' ahead of this intercity, which is really fooking smart. What a bunch of twats.
