          Aren't you relatively safe even if you're in the water ? From what I remember of the big one that hit a couple of years ago with big loss of life some divers were amongst the survivors.

              Depends how far out to sea the boat is! If the boat is near shore, then it's going to be swept in and dashed into the nearest hotel. If the boat is far enough out so that the water is deep enough to absorb the wave (you just get a little wave further out) then you might be OK. The deeper the water, the smaller the wave - it's when it gets to shore that the energy has no-where to go and it becomes destructive.

              Of course, getting back into shore could be an "experience" to say the least.
