Just discussed it with MrsF. If I can agree to be home for Christmas, then I can do it. Means that I will miss her birthday at the end of January, but she is OK with that.

Might not come to anything, so no point in stewing on it yet. Will see if there is anything nearer to home on Jobserve today....

That's one approach, but in practice contracts in far flung places never start on the date initially mentioned. They are usually a good opportunity to boost your savings, which more than offsets downtime in the interim.

Finished yesterday and now sitting in front of a screen wearing a t-shirt with a picture of Kaus Kinski and some stains from yesterday's evening meal (I think it might be sauce from the Risotto) and a pair of clean o-backs.

Just waiting to hear who is going to get back to me first with a new contract. Had a call with a company last night which went well and is about 80% definite and is quite nice as its 50% on-site and 50% home working and not a 5 days a week jobbie which allows me to fit in the other gigs lined up which are all also part-time.

Thursday I will probably go over to Luxembourg to pick up cheap fags and next Friday to the UK to get some shopping in, maybe. Or I'll just sit and stew and create a funky smell in the SoHo.
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

          Sounds like my life.

Actually, I am hating this 'working' from home stuff. I would love to get myself a little serviced office in the City, but it would be expensive and would put me in a difficult position with regard to my status in the UK.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

The downside of getting JobSeeker's Allowance is your time is not all your own.

I've got to attend a Back To Work Session where they teach me how to find work.

I'm so looking forward to it...

... then again, I might learn something. You never know.

I know someone who went on one of these about two months ago.

He took his cv - they were not interested in looking at it.
They carefully explained that he could use the internet to find work and had he thought of registering with some recruitment agencies? They did give him a list of recruitment websites though - Jobswerve wasn't on there and the bloke running the course hadn't heard of it.
They won't offer you any useful help at all. This includes help on getting accreditation for government standards such as Prince2 (we paid for the fckers to develop this, via our taxes). Nope.

I hope your experience is better than his. I had to pour a decent amount of beer down his throat before he'd stop ranting.

I have an interview at 4.

I have very few of the skills they are looking for, and don't want to work there. But they need someone with security clearance, and I have at least got some of the skills they want.

I tried to price myself out of the market, but they met my demands.

A mate of mine had that experience, but that was three or four years ago. Nothing has changed. My pal ranted on for ages, but I didn’t have the heart to shout STFU.

He told me that they idiot ‘advising’ him looked at his CV and said something like, “It’s a bit technical; I don’t understand a word of it, but I can see you have some IT skills. You should lower your sights and consider data-entry work”. I don’t know how my friend didn’t smack the fraker right then; I would have.

I was that man! (except Zippy didn't pour beer down my throat, unfortunately)

A complete and utter waste of gig hunting time for me. It was just aimed at trying to cajole the workshy into getting a CV written etc. and give the Job Centre staff something to do.

Quite. He got lucky the week after and found something paying a decent wedge via an ex-colleague, so no references or agents required. If he'd had any faith in the Job Centre, he'd still be twiddling his thumbs. This is why I'm not surprised by the number of lifelong unemployed out there. They won't have as much upstairs as my mate, so they've got no chance.

Should I pour some beer down my own throat now?
