They get paid a monthly salary which is less than the prevalent UK salary
They can get away with this because of ICT loophole

Morgan Spurlock did a documentary series called 30 days where he swapped people into differeing situations for 30 days. One of those shows was where a guy from the US who had lost his job to outsourcing went to Bangalore and worked at the outsourcers place.

From my experience in BLR and other places around the world, as well as those shown in the Spurlock show are very different to the image that a lot of you on here are promoting.

I've always know that this was a fairly right wing board but a lot of what's being posted these days does appear as casual racism of a terrible kind.

      Jsut my 2p though.

Ah yes, the racism card. I wondered how long it would take before some cretin came online claiming that people who have an issue with offshoring or outsourcing are either racists or right wing.

There are a few idiots on this board. Congratulations - you have just made them look like Nobel Prize winners.

Ever thought that maybe, just maybe, some people are against outsourcing/offshoring based on OUR EXPERIENCE? Or are you such an arrogant cretin that you think your experience is the only one that's valid so everyone who disagrees with you must by definition be a racist right wing nutter?
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? - Epicurus

That was the word I was looking for. Doh.

Not all the comments stuck to the issue of outsourcing.

Good rant. But my take on the OP is that he's objecting to the portrayal of the "Indian prgrammer in the slums" image as being wrong and outdated.
                And, yes, he's right.

Balls. Nothing to do with race, everything to do with BT making money for Tech Mahindra by giving them work they would not normally be allowed even to bid for. Why not simply offer the work to the existing team, who have the skills and experience necessary, at a lower rate?

FWIW I inherited an Infotech team at my last gig. Started off with an onsite PM plus two coders and a moderately sized offshore dev team. One year later there were 15 on site people at £350 a day and another dozen offshore (one for each technical discipline). I would have marked two of them as competent; they would rather write a whole new app and plug it in than modify what was already there, even when all was needed was a minor tweak to a Notes database. They were not interested in servicing the customer, only in maximising income. That is the key difference that people keep ignoring, and is why offshoring invariably costs more in the medium to long term.

Were you replaced by an Intra Company transfer bod? I was and the guy they replaced me with ahd exactly no skills for the job - I know as I had the task of training him up to replace me. He was supposed to be a data analyst yet had no exp of applications such as Excel - I'd say that was a pretty basic skill he was lacking.

We also used a tool on site that hardly anybody used. Tech M had an agent place the role on Jobserve at 170 a day, half what the guy doing the job was on. I think this was their justification for bringing somebody in as my colleague applied for it and even said he'd work at that rate (his wife had just been made redundant and just had kids) but was told he couldn't. Instead he had to train up a tech m guy and then was let go.

So to be honest NickNick - your 2p is worth just that!
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

                    I preferred version 1!

Hey PM - I've noticed a tendency for you to go off half-cocked without knowing the full facts. Typical PM then and why IT projects invariably fail in this country
