Business is business. There is a market rate, with some exploitation some of the time, eventually that ceases as people become more educated and organised and fight for their rights.
What you consider a pittance enables people to do all sorts of things that they couldn't before like send their children to school. The next generation then improves and gets less of a pittance and so on.
That is what has happened in Asia generally since the 2nd world war.
In Africa the people have got used to aid and are worse off than 60 years ago.

[Edited] There is a prominent African economist who now says all aid should be suspended and the 3rd world left to sink or swim in the free market. He's confident that there will be massive improvement within 3 generations.

Mich is surely right that it is more racist to pay third-world workers low wages than it is to complain about companies doing that when our countries' rules say that they shouldn't.


But it is beginning to look like the old Usenet Godwin's Law: sooner or later somebody draws a comparison to Hitler or the Nazis. What they are trying to promote for those laid off in the USA is a move to the countries where the jobs are going yet you will only get the local going salary.

If you mean paying them lower wages when they are working over here then yes, you're right.
But I dare say an Indian programmer's salary in India enables him/her to live very well. So I read anyway.
