I do get some bites but not a huge amount. None so far this year.

We use Odomos cream - it works like magic and isn't stinky like Deet or Jungle Formula etc

My wife and daughter get bitten every day even wearing repellent. I don't wear repellent, but seldom get bitten.

Same for my wife BTW, gets bitten all the time, and I hardly ever do. Probably something to do with how you smell, and possibly even your blood group.

Something changed for me. Never got bitten when I was 20 for a couple of decades. When we went away with the lads on the 20's and 18-30s holidays I'd often sleep out on the balcony because non of the rooms had air con and never got a bite. My mate had to do a nightly hour long mozzie hunt to clear the room before he went to sleep and still woke up like he had the measels. Room was always absolutely covered in red dot's all over the walls and ceilings.

Something happened in late 30's I'd guess and it just turned on it's head. First time was a trip to Mexico, got feasted on and reacted really badly. Had golf ball size lumps all over me. Ever since then I get bitten whereever I go and often react badly to them with big lumps. Even just walking the dog and playing in the river with her in summer. Couple of times in the last few months I've come home with bad bites that bruise and scab.

Right pain in the (whereever I get bitten).

One of the things we like about Lanzarote, apart from the great all-year-round climate, is that there are virtually no mosquitoes. You can sit outside all evening, and leave windows open at night, without getting bitten. Probably the same on Fuerteventura which is equally arid. Don't know if this is true of other Canary Islands, like Tenerife or Gran Canaria, which are wetter in the north.

Anywhere else with a hot climate that doesn't have mozzies?

In mainland France this year:
7 cases of locally transmitted Chikungunya
4 cases of locally transmitted Dengue
30 cases of locally transmitted West Nile Virus

Tiger mosquitoes are now effectively endemic. There's also in my area of Switzerland, but thankfully not disease carrying. Yet.
