How do you know what their individual claims are?
Btw I think Bliar's government tried to claim certain countries were safe but it was proved otherwise. (And we had the privilege of paying for it...)

For example it is generally accepted the US is a safe country unless you are someone like Edward Snowden."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

Its like knife crime here really. As in it's mainly gangs and the like, environments 'normal' folks don't tend to find themselves in.Originally posted by NotAllThere View Post

For example it is generally accepted the US is a safe country unless you are someone like Edward Snowden.
However the figures of 'Asylum seekers'/Economic migrants coming from safe countries does make a serious point.
Now you use a black swan to illustrate your point. Snowden is considered a traitor in the US because he broke the law about national security if we get an agreement that he is to receive humane treatment then its perfectly reasonable to send him home. Assange is unlikely to granted Asylum but may be handed over to the US subject to guarantees if Australia don't want him.
Part of the asylum process is deciding what risk those claiming Asylum are at if they are returned to their home countries. By international agreement USA, India & Albania are recognised as safe countries so they too are very unlikely to be the basis for granting asylum something extraordinary would need to be added for Asylum to be granted.
