    Hot hatch recommendations

Haven't bought a car since 2012, so don't know the market. Currently got a clapped out 2007 Audi TT.

Looking for something no more than 5 years old. First thought was Golf GTI but even for a 2018 plate they're £20k+.

    Ideally looking to spend £12k-ish.

    Any suggestions?

Few years ago the ecoboost engines were raved about being amazing but pretty sure they turned out to be complete dud and die at 30k.

<checks technical thread> You really are a cheapskate aren't you. No requirements bar hot hatch and price? Almost appears that you are trolling.

Ok. Just what I heard. Countless reports of French counter terrorism police stopping Ford's at the border due to their nickname 'EcoBoom'.

I'm sure there are endless stories of engines going pop but have you seen the mods they put on them and how your average ST owner drives it.

Either way after a TT I can't see a contractor going for an ST. Knobheads car.

That's if anything about this thread is actually real.

With a 12k budget you are going to have to look out to 8 or even 10 years old.

Normally over a three year period prices should have halved, but due to covid they haven't halved over the last three years but stayed constant, actually gone up in many cases, so everything is priced around double what it would have been compared to had covid not happened.

Nah, quick look at Evan Halshaw 12k leon/golf etc and you're looking at 2018ish at 60k/m-ish.

Just looked at my car (same year) and its actually selling on Halshaw for pretty much the same price as I bought it 8 years ago, although with significantly lower mileage. (I'm good and enjoy self maintenance and like to run cars into the ground.)

Although inflation is wild. £10,000 in 2015 is now £13,300ish.

Depends on how hot he wants it to be and as trolls do he's not bothered giving any detail so we will all argue about it. A quick look at Autotrader or whatever he can get a pretty new hatch, he isn't going to get much thats 'hot'.

He can get a really nice A45 for that price but if he wants an AMG or whatever he's gonna have to go old.

Not enough detail to know what he wants so we can't help him.
