He can get a really nice A45 for that price but if he wants an AMG or whatever he's gonna have to go old.

Not enough detail to know what he wants so we can't help him.
This constant calling everyone trolls and sockies beyond pathetic. Grow up.

I honestly do not understand why you haven't been banned, you are toxic.

Normally over a three year period prices should have halved, but due to covid they haven't halved over the last three years but stayed constant, actually gone up in many cases, so everything is priced around double what it would have been compared to had covid not happened.
Yep, I was a bit shocked when I had a quick browse on autotrader.

Curiously, 5-year old TTs aren't selling for much more than the £16k I paid 11 years ago.

Probably because TT sales are low and the model is being discontinued this year.
2 seaters (and cramped four seaters) are just not as fashionable for posing as they once were.

Second hand car values are indeed crazy. I bought a low mileage Golf estate just over 5 years go. Put almost 50k miles on it and it's still only dropped about £3-4k in value.

Apparently second hand prices of ULEZ-compliant cars in the London / South East area have gone through the roof, as people desperately try to get a vehicle they don't have to pay an extra £12.50 a day to drive following the imminent ULEZ expansion.

The second hand car market is red hot at the moment; bargains are few and far between.

The Fiesta ST does have a good reputation, I know many petrol heads who have enjoyed ragging around in one. The Skoda Fabia vRS might also be worth a look. The Golf R can be had for 12k. If you're willing to buy an older car, the R32 can be had for under 10k. My brother has the Honda Civic Type R and that's a bit nippy.

I loved my little Polo GTI 1.6 pocket rocket until some arse wrote it off.

You do need to be a bit more specific. Modern cars with smaller engines are often a lot quicker than older ones with large V6's. Are you after a V6 in a small car or just want to go fast in a small car?

Something that's small, quick and fun to drive. It needs to be a hatchback for the dog. That's partly why I got the TT; with the parcel shelf removed there's plenty of room for a small/medium dog. Only need a 2-seater, which is pretty much what the TT is; the backseats are really only suitable for small children.

That's more of a coupe than a hatchback then.

Yes but most coupes have a boot (rather than a hatch/tailgate) which I don't think the dog would be too keen on.

I think the Nissan 350Z also has a tailgate but I don't know how roomy it is.

Wouldn't suggest a 350z. The biggest boast they have is that you can fit a golf bag in the boot but only certain sized bags and it's sculpted to fit so a bit of a cheat.

LM hits a good point with the Skodas but I'd be going for the Octavia VRs not the fabia. But then you are in estate territory which isn't what you want. I wouldn't discount it though, fun car, good prices and very practical.
