BOOM: England and Wales getting lots more skilled people

Seems like great news for the UK, a ton of skilled workers arriving, doctors, IT specialists, surgeons, you name it, we're getting it.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63485073

The number of people in England and Wales who were born outside the UK has increased by 2.5 million since 2011, latest census data shows.

The 2021 survey counted 10 million foreign-born people, among a population of 59.5 million in England and Wales.

Of these, India was the most common birth place, with 920,000 people, 1.5% of usual residents, born there.

The number of Romanian-born people in England and Wales rose 576% between 2011 and 2021 to 539,000

Finally the Tories have been getting it right all along.

I suspect the growth has been going on for decades.

Net migration was at a relatively low level during the 1980s and early 1990s. Since 1994, it has been positive every year and rose sharply after 1997.

During the 2000s, net migration increased further, partly as a result of immigration of citizens from the countries that have joined the EU since 2004. Since the mid 2000s, annual net migration has fluctuated between approximately 150,000 and 300,000.
Maybe we should build some houses & schools?

Excellent deflection there, trying to blame Labour.

The report is very clear, it's between 2011 and 2021 ... Tory control ... that a million legal immigrants from India are in the country. Personally, I don't care, but as you lot hate immigration, and you voted Tory, you probably need to accept that your beloved PM/MPs have not served you the way you want.

Where do you and assorted others get the idea that "us lot", Tories or any other random grouping outside the BNP are against immigration? Nobody with a brain complains about legal immigration or immigration of skilled labour in areas where it's needed.

And if you want to defend Labour as not being the source of the problem, start by explaining Blair's open borders policies and his parallel reduction in what is now Border Force resources....
        Blog? What blog...?

It wasn't a deflection it was more information. It clearly shows despite party politics both main parties seem to think we need immigration. The problems resulting need to be dealt with.

I don't need to try to blame labour the facts show they were up to it too.

Why do you assume I want to vote for either shower? Tories are nearly as bad as labour. Screaming Lord such even dead is possibly a better candidate.

It is good this is coming out though because maybe the electorate will start asking "why do we need this immigration? Why didn't you ask us? How are you going to support the additional people? " etc.

I'm not saying that Blair et al didn't have their own little issues too, but the report was very specific that it was increases since 2011 ... you can't blame Blair for that any more than Labour can keep blaming Maggie for stuff.

As for this "Nobody with a brain complains about legal immigration" I agree ... but then a lot of the B****t arguments were about legal immigration of EU citizens. The 52% who voted a certain way voted because of the complaints around the numbers of legal immigrants put forward by Farage and Boris ... but I agree, those with a brain never complained about legal immigration. Glad we're finally on the same page there.

Actually the phrase should be "Nobody with a brain complains about sensible immigration" I would prefer legal immigration to be a benefit to society. It became clear that freedom of movement was having a detrimental effect on those at the bottom rung of pay.

A sensible points based immigration makes sense. Any immigration should be underpinned by moves to make resources available for the increased numbers and any increase in population should be able to pay for themselves.

So, it’s OK to destroy the lives of educated Brits, by replacing them with foreigners, but The lazy working-class Brits should be protected from competition?

I guess you think there should be a lot of points for IT skills?

We need a highly skilled high wage economy. The majority of benefit claimants are working, someone has to pay for that or we need to change.

We have automation coming, a third of none skilled staff will probably be laid off have a look at fast food chains & supermarkets.

High skills will give us a chance to compete. Lots of unskilled labour will lead to desperation and nastiness.

You can’t have a high wage economy if you are importing the third world to undercut your skilled labour.
