Appreciate vast numbers are struggling, thanking lucky stars I can cover the basics. One of my favourite things about contracting (for me) is no longer even thinking about all the day-to-day costs incurred, knew I wasn't going crazy so I just never think about food or bills.
Number of years ago, poor decision making and lack of relevant skills left me in a perm job at a 50% pay cut to contract. This left me with a monthly defecit on costs, it was grim and I had to consider most purchases carefully.
When I got back in the game I vowed to never be in that situation again and started serious work on building a surplus for a rainy day, never regretted it.
