That got me thinking about this re gay marriage.

    But looking into it:

"this only applies to heterosexual marriage because Paragraph 4 of schedule 4 of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013 specifically excludes non-consummation as a ground for the annulment of a same-sex marriage"

Phew! I thought I might have to put up with a mega-sore-ass one night if I wanted to get married to a bloke.

Some times it is better to give than receive?

But even without those issues its life affirming that two people love each other so much that they are prepared to live in misery until death does them part
Nothing a well written will and power of attorney can't sort out.

Anyway, I was saying consummation of a marriage was the old fashioned bit. I don't have anything against marriage, I just have no need of it.

Indeed, if nobody wants you it's moot.

            To OP:

Belief in tradition, culture and values.

Love, sign of commitment etc etc.

I've been with my wife for 23 years, married 13 of those. I never felt a need to get married, as I thought it was both overly commercialised in the UK and also not really necessary.

My wife works with children and feels that the psychology of having married parents makes a difference to children's overall wellbeing. As we are both victims of divorce in the 80's , I believe that we're perhaps a little biased too, having felt first hand the trauma it can bring.

But, having got married, I do think it does make a difference, quite why I'm not sure.

We got married overseas for less than 2 grand and it was magnificent, so the worry about wasting money was irrelevant really.

Not the inheritance, tax or pensions part.

What children need is stability. Everyone should be sterilised until they are in a position where they can provide children with a decent environment.

But I wasn't talking about marriage (is this thing on? ) and if you're going to get married for the tax benefits then, IMO, you're getting married for the wrong reasons.
