Unfortunately, I don’t think so. I well remember the 1960s, jumping through hoops doing business in the UK and with Europe. The UK had restrictions and tariffs on everything to protect their home market which was producing overpriced crap. Because of restrictive practices, it was even difficult to sell in the UK home market. The UK was relying on imposing our overpriced crap and three square pin plugs on the former British Empire.

Whatever ever happens in Brexit, it will cost us much more.

We need to export to the EU. It is far easier to export something to your neighbours than your neighbours neighbours as practicalities like time zones and shared business norms e.g. obeying the rule of law do come into play.

I have never once thought "I am going to be paying a tariff on that item manufactured outside the EU, can I get one that is made in the free trade area and avoid the duty?"

You clearly don't have family and friends who live or have lived abroad and you want to post presents to.

If you do you know that if they are outside countries in the EU and EFTA you risk them paying import duties on your present if it is of high value. I've seen it happen in reverse.

That's why we tell our relatives in the UK to send money rather than presents. Got a holding address in Germany though, so that helps, as the duty free allowance is higher if you bring the stuff in yourself.

The Chinese psyche is tottally different. In order for the UK to achive that we would have to change the education system, kids would have to do a massive amount of homework (no leisure), abolish all social benefits, abolish office shops and factuary regulations, abolish planning regulations, abolish the minimum wage; then wait a gerneration. It will never happen.

Yes but for the extra 50 or 100 quid that will cost you over a year do you think it is worth giving our civil liberties to a central European power?

Also how many UK citizens do you think that problem affects?
