You're probably right, but that doesn't change the fact that the US Senate acted against him. What are the EU doing about anything serious? The migration crisis for example. Fairly close to the square root of bugger all. And that's one of many reasons why we're better off getting the hell out of Dodge.

Well when the EU throws its toys out of the pram and refuses to sell us processed coffee or Cocoa because we don't want to be their friend anymore we will probably go direct. Its not like we have a coffee or chocolate industry to protect is it?

I mean just look at the masterful way they opposed Putin, they puckered up and asked for Lube.

Oh please, you know full bloody well that applies equally to both sides. Some of the crap we have had to take from Cameron about OAPs losing their free bus passes and TV licenses is frankly the last desperate rantings of a moron who just realised he picked the wrong side.

Correction: They brought along their own lube, but claimed it on expenses... HTH.

But that isn't how this plays out...

We will agree a trade deal with the EU in some form... Guess what it will say about coffee... And do we give enough of a tulip about Africa to not agree ? Considering we agreed to screw them over in the past its hard to imagine we are going give much more than zero ****s this time around.

The EU is first and foremost customs area. The EU sets the tariffs on goods imported into this area. We have very little say over this.

                  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe..._Customs_Union

The European Union Customs Union (EUCU) is a customs union which consists of all the member states of the European Union (EU) and some of its neighbouring countries: Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and Turkey.

The customs union is a principal task of the European Economic Community, established in 1958, and now succeeded by the European Union. No customs are levied on goods travelling within the customs union and—unlike a free trade area—members of the customs union impose a common external tariff on all goods entering the union. One of the consequences of the customs union is that the European Union negotiates as a single entity in international trade deals such as the World Trade Organisation, instead of individual member states negotiating for themselves.
When we leave we take our place back at the World Trade Organisation. We can then negotiate our own trade deals.

It'll be up to us whether we reduce tariffs on African goods or not.

Doesn't sound like bollocks to me. Sounds a lot more like democracy.

It will say nothing about coffee. No EU member state grows coffee. So we can buy coffee from whomsoever we choose, without going via Brussels and paying the tariffs they impose. You did pick the stupidest point to argue on, go on, admit it...
