It has since been changed, it had code for yandex.ru VK.ru and mail.ru also other known Russian websites. A quick search online and you'll find a lot of content on this. It does make sense, as it was bypassing paywalls.

I just use it to avoid paying money to the Torygraph. HWMBO uses it when he wants to share things from the NYT. Neither of us ever had any issues with malware as a result. But each should do their own risk assessment of any URL posted in a public forum.

I don't understand your point. Your anecdote that you haven't received malware, how do you know? You don't.

The archive URL you mentioned and others are now blocked from corporate devices, due to low reputation on trusted blocklist websites used across the world. Wikipedia has blocked them all too and actively disallows using them as references. If you don't see a problem with your "I get free content so I don't care" approach, there's something wrong with you if you work in IT, which I'm sure you do from your past posts. If you don't quite understand how to view what's loading on a web page, use the NoScript plugin and U Block Origin, which will show the webpages regularly loading .ru domains.

You don't get anything for free.

I have browser plug ins to block scripts. Nothing loads without me knowing about it but maybe not everything gets blocked because the plug ins can't detect them. How would I know? I sometimes open websites in isolated browser instances on virtual machines if I'm really not sure about them.

Maybe it's possible my PC is riddled with malware and my daily scans are unable to see it. Again, how would I know if I'm not receiving demands for bitcoin to regain access to my PC that I'm fully in control of?

I think I take enough precautions but, sure, carry on lecturing me.

If you don't like the website, don't click the link.
