One of the main theories of evolution is that humans have evolved large brains to cope with very complex social interactions and relationships. Social interaction is the number one determinate of your likelihood to procreate, i.e. fitting in. Things like humour and entertainment are as crucial to humans as the sharpest claws and brightest tail feathers of an animal. Therefore things like humour and ability to entertain (or the capacity to learn/develop them) which are used to impress both men/women and increase your social standing in a group are an evolutionary attribute of men. Men must impress women by making them laugh or have fun in order to reproduce. So they are naturally funnier, more interesting, and more entertaining. Therefore it stands to reason that they would be the most prolific writers.Unless you're the lead dog, the scenery never changes.

But surely this is true of women also? For example, if we look beyond the dropdead gorgeous babe with an unpleasant personality we see other less-attractive women who up their game personality-wise to complete.Originally posted by NibblyPig View PostTherefore things like humour and ability to entertain (or the capacity to learn/develop them) which are used to impress both men/women and increase your social standing in a group are an evolutionary attribute of men.Comment

That is modern and purely social. In evolutionary terms, it would not be true of females at all. Females in the wild would have little need to compete, since virtually all females would reproduce. Only males were at risk of not reproducing at all; or conversely of reproducing way above average.Originally posted by I just need to test it View PostBut surely this is true of women also? Hence more struggle to achieve in males. And more violence: physically preventing other males from impregnating females is a superb success strategy from an evolutionary point of view.Comment
