"I read in the Daily Mail"
Originally posted by NotAllThere View PostImmigration is good for the economy. That's been demonstrated fairly well. (The idea of all the immigrants coming over to sponge on the welfare state is just a xenophobic myth - funnily enough common in Switzerland too, where being on welfare is pretty tough compared to the UK).
Where immigration needs to be far more carefully controlled is the cultural aspect. The Swiss do that rather well.
Immigrants are not all sponging off the state, true. But they are more often than not in low-paying jobs, and therefore take more in public services than their tax pays for.
What the Swiss do "rather well" is to say "integrate or fsck off", there's no namby pamby socialism that pretends multiculturalism is a good thing.
(By the way, is the dole still 80% of your salary there?)Comment

Vlad the Impaler was hailed as a 'very good administrator' by revisionist Marxist historians, MP's note to Thatcher reveals
•Panel of Communist historians reassessed 'Vlad Dracul' 'positively'
•Warrior prince from the 15th century inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula
•Tory MP Julian Amery noted his shock after visit to Romania in 1983
•Wrote newly-released memo to Margaret Thatcher following his tripThe MP described in a memo - released by the National Archives at Kew, West London - how he had learned that the historians now looked upon Dracula favourably, though still deplored his habit of sucking the blood of virgins.
‘He was, apparently, a very good administrator if somewhat excessive in his use of impaling to punish wrongdoers,’ Mr Amery wrote in a report to Mrs Thatcher.
Surprise: Describing his visit to then Communist Romania to meet with then president Nicolae Ceausescu (left) in 1983, Tory MP Julian Amery (right) noted his shock
‘He was also a very patriotic warrior against the Turks. His tendency in old age to drink the blood of virgins as a restorative is of course deplored.
‘But as our guide lamented, he would find it difficult nowadays to find an adequate supply.’Comment
