Personally I think it might all backfire on CMD. Really what he should have done is bomb them to **** and don't tell anyone who it was, blame it on someone else and then IS will retaliate against them, because once you've started on these guys there ain't no going back and as they have nothing to lose (everyone seems to call them a 'Death Cult' now) they're going to be coming back right at you...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm! No easy answers, but generally I'm a well, er, yes, I suppose.

Will it reduce or increase chances of terrorism here? Probably won't make much difference in the short term, as these people will attack us anyway. We already have plenty here with their mind set and rationality does not figure highly in their thinking - we are the Imperialist West, killers of Muslims, and we are already on the list. In the long term (assuming IS is actually defeated) I think it will reduce the risk as the lack of an achievable ultimate goal may make the more rational less inclined to risk their lives.

Comparisons with Afghanistan/Iraq are daft in my view. There were no good reasons whatever for those and anyone with a modicum of knowledge of the areas would have known that there would be internal conflicts and problems that would probably result in even worse outcomes for the citizens of those countries. In this case, there are far better reasons, it is difficult to imagine a worse situation than an area controlled by those butchers. If the Islamic state was achieved and allowed to flourish as a real nation it would just be the starting point in their quest to impose the nonsense of Islam on all of us. Extremists among our own citizens would be pouring in for training and oil funding would be flowing to every radical Muslim organisation on the planet.

Perhaps the most important thing is that we should stand by our allies, the French, following the Paris attack. One can um and ah but IMO a major aspect of life that we should always follow - look after your own. Yourself, your family, your friends, those like you - they should always come first.

Some issues are so complex and unpredictable one can spend forever deciding what is right or what will work and there can be no firm conclusions. If we had to be totally sure of everything we would always do bugger all.

Don't think potatoes will be effective against IS. They only worked against the Paddys.

Well I was thinking I was going to have to fly over there in my plane and drop a couple of rocks on them, but now I know the RAF can take my place

I am not sure whose shoes I would rather be in

Someone who believes that our number one priority is to protect our loved ones and values by using deadly force and by being aggressive

Someone who believes that our number one priority is to protect our loved ones and values by minding our own business and by being passive

                    well I am sure.

I believe Hilary summed it up nicely. Especially the last few minutes.

I find this left wing pacifism truly disgusting. How many cheeks can you turn?
