Quite I wonder how much of Putins funding is behind articles like that, they value tame socialists to spread disorder amongst their enemiesSocialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.
No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent. -

negotiated compromise with the military? and what has changed since the re-birth of their democracy? you can vote peronist, peronist or peronist. And if you dont you get a visit from La campora or el quebracho.
Jenkins says 'the Malvinas are not a big issue in Buenos Aires politics.'
what a bloody idiot.
The article is as useful as a caserolazo.Comment

When Hitler was getting people all riled up and nationalistic he was depending on there being enough people like you. Easy to manipulate, lack of self worth and lacking in rational and logical thinking.Originally posted by alluvial View PostSo when does it become worth it? Does there have to be a certain size of population before we consider them worthy of being defended from a neighbour's aggression? Quite frankly, if Britain does decide that they aren't worth it and that we can't be arsed to go down to the South Atlantic to defend them, then maybe they would be better off throwing their lot in with another sovereign state.
And if you think that it isn't worth it to go and defend other British citizens from aggressors, then maybe you aren't worthy of calling yourself British.
If you get enough people like you riled up you can start causing damage to the majority who would rather have a nice cup of tea and talk things over.
I'm happy to call myself British, judging a situation and making calm clear decisions is what we do. You don't sensibly go to war over a rock thousand of miles away that will cost lives and money. Our politicians have known this forever, that's why we decided to be friends with the US and have a mostly peaceful transition. Plenty of territorial deputes between both countries but it was not worth the hassle for both countries to fight.
We went to war with Argentina because Thatcher realized that her government would be thrown out and our reputation as military power would be damaged if she didn't. Do you think for one minute that the government sat round and said "those chaps in the Falklands are British, we can't let them down, lets send our entire fleet out over there to sort em".
What would you do if Russia decided to occupy the Falklands, someone we can't beat so easily, send a few nukes over?

Thatcher and her cabinet also knew that Argentina didn't have a big army and were full of young conscripts. It was going to be hard logistically to get over there and kick them out but the Tories thought it would be easy. In fact, they thought when the fleet turned up the Argies would turn tail.
It was all going to plan when the Belgrano was sunk but then the Exocets starting hitting our ships and we got heavy casualties it was a different story.Comment

Lol. Is that suposed to mean anything?! How does one become worthy?Originally posted by alluvial View PostAnd if you think that it isn't worth it to go and defend other British citizens from aggressors, then maybe you aren't worthy of calling yourself British.
I'm not arguing your wider point. I think it's all bollocks, either way, just like everything else in politics.
I would imagine, though, that the cost people complain about is actually buying something else that they've not spotted. More than just allowing the inhabitants to stay unmolested.Comment
