Speaking as someone that was actually serving in the Army at the time of the Falklands War, I can assure all the fretting armchair warriors that the current Defences of the islands are more than adequate to see off any potential Argie invasion.
All that despite the scaling back of the Armed Forces.
Thereby nullifying any requirement to "retake them".

That wont matter if the Green trots have any influence. They have already 'pre-surrendered'
They might be able to drive the Argentinians into a corner though, by making them contribute a quid to the one million relocation allowance and an OS map of Arran

What did you do in the Army? Did you fight in the Falklands? Rank etc? Did you think sacrificing so many life's was worth it?

What would their rank have to do with it? Privates to Lt Cols gave their lives during the campaign.

          Oh and lives

I'm not for surrendering anything, I'm for being realistic. All these people that say we stood up for being British and defending the rights of these poor people are misguided.

If we go to war at least understand the real reasons.

Speak to a few foreigners and get their perspective on things, it's hard to argue with them when they say we cause all the problems, us and the US.

His rank is important because he has just advised that we are able to defend the Falklands.

I know very well how many people died, you dick, I'm all for young men not dying. Oh I'm not a pacifist by the way, I just want us to be realistic.

If you decide to say I don't value soldiers lives then perhaps you and I should meet up. See how lefty or liberal I am then.

              Thanks for the spelling correction.

If anyone is misguided it is you and your belief that a policy of appeasment would work, look how well that worked out previously.

If we go to war it is to protect British interests. Those interests may be many and varied but in the case of the Falklands it was an invasion of British territory. It was unfortunate that lives were lost but it would have been very easy to have avoided all of the casualties by Argentina not invading in the first place. If they thought they would be unopposed, then they were misguided as out of all the governments we've had in recent history, Thatcher's was probably the least likely to capitulate.

By all means speak to a few foriegners, but if what they say is that they want to take what is ours, then I think the deployment of an effective force capable of repelling anything they might be able to send is money well spent and will avoid any future loss of life or expensive wars just by its very existence.

So only certain ranks have the ability to correctly assess the effectiveness of the islands defences?

Some opinions carry more authority/respect than others. It's a really simple concept.

Look, I think your stupid and silly and you think the same of me. I'm not going to change your perspective and until the average IQ goes up we are going to end up in these wars. People like you happy to cry war when your safely sitting behind your desk.
