Having spent a rather long time working with people who have been stationed there in all 3 forces I have a better than passing acquaintance with the defences there now, to say that they have no resemblance to when Argentina invaded in the 1980's would be a gross understatement.Comment

For a start, please don't confuse your and you're, it annoys the grammar nazis around these parts.Originally posted by woohoo View PostLook, I think your stupid and silly and you think the same of me. I'm not going to change your perspective and until the average IQ goes up we are going to end up in these wars. People like you happy to cry war when your safely sitting behind your desk.
You're correct, I do think that you're stupid and silly with your ideas of appeasment and clearances. These have been tried before and it is generally accepted that such things are stupid and silly. But standing up to bullies, ensuring you have the resources and abilities to prevent those that act in a stupid and silly way, from thinking they can get away with being a bully has, in general, been an effective strategy.
Also, I do not cry war, as Asimov said, "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent". I am not fond of war, especially stupid and silly wars started by nations that think they can get away with it. I am, however, in favour of carrying a big enough stick to warn off the stupid and silly would-be bullies from trying it on with us. Something, sadly, that our recent governments seem to have forgotten I may add.Comment

I get a suspicion that you were answering someone else when you quoted me. If that is the case, well doneOriginally posted by woohoo View PostHis rank is important because he has just advised that we are able to defend the Falklands.
I know very well how many people died, you dick, I'm all for young men not dying. It was a serious question. What did rank have to do with it? We had plenty of educated idiots in charge when I served too so rank is quite irrelevant Oh I'm not a pacifist by the way, I just want us to be realistic. I understand realistic. The difference between the Falklands and the Chagos Islanders/Diego Garcia is that the Falklanders are of British descent (mostly) and they wanted to be defended. What we did in the Indian Ocean (and are still doing) is absolutely unforgiveable.
If you decide to say I don't value soldiers lives then perhaps you and I should meet up. Is this because you dislike violence or do you want a date? You cannot put words in someone's mouth then threaten them because they did not say something you wouldn't have liked
See how lefty or liberal I am then. WGAS, really
Thanks for the spelling correction. You are very welcome.

I don't care about the grammar Nazis, I think you probably pointed out my mistake to make yourself feel superior. It's what small minded people do.Originally posted by alluvial View PostFor a start, please don't confuse your and you're, it annoys the grammar nazis around these parts.

I'm a little bored with the rest of your comment. I don't think anything I can say can change your mind. Good luck with life.Comment

Not at all, I was just hoping that maybe you would be able to take some small thing from this thread.Originally posted by woohoo View PostI don't care about the grammar Nazis, I think you probably pointed out my mistake to make yourself feel superior. It's what small minded people do.

Anyway, you are correct in one respect and that is that you won't change my mind.
I also wish you good luck with your life.Comment

You still didn't answer, what has rank got to do with whether anyone is qualified to think that we could now defend the FI without a task force? The question was about the reality of the current situation, not the rights and wrongs of it.Comment

Yeah your reply was a bit strange, confused me, you quote me and looks like you answered my post within the quote then underneath said that it looked like I was replying to someone else. Very strange.Originally posted by tractor View PostI was talking to you, not him. You seem to be

Anyway, to answer your question. The poster gave his military opinion, I would like to know what rank he was so I can judge how much authority that opinion carries. If he was a general then I would expect him to be an expert in his field and his opinion would mean more. The opinion of a private regarding the strategic defence of the island would carry less weight to me.Comment
