Scotland also had a bit of a thing for supporting Malawi for a while, I think that stopped when the president spunked our aid grant on his wedding, 2 million for one road for it and I think he bought 50 Mercedes for the event.Comment

One was a chiefs son and the other was a tribesman. The amount of haughtiness vs the deference of the tribesman was absolutely staggering. We still had a bit of a class sytem then, but this still boggles my mind to this day. To think it was normal and right and to go along with it..hard to imagine(\__/)

If you get enough people like you riled up you can start causing damage to the majority who would rather have a nice cup of tea and talk things over.
I'm happy to call myself British, judging a situation and making calm clear decisions is what we do. You don't sensibly go to war over a rock thousand of miles away that will cost lives and money. Our politicians have known this forever, that's why we decided to be friends with the US and have a mostly peaceful transition. Plenty of territorial deputes between both countries but it was not worth the hassle for both countries to fight.
We went to war with Argentina because Thatcher realized that her government would be thrown out and our reputation as military power would be damaged if she didn't. Do you think for one minute that the government sat round and said "those chaps in the Falklands are British, we can't let them down, lets send our entire fleet out over there to sort em".
What would you do if Russia decided to occupy the Falklands, someone we can't beat so easily, send a few nukes over?
Stupid people like you annoy me.
Oh piss off you quisling.Comment

It was all going to plan when the Belgrano was sunk but then the Exocets starting hitting our ships and we got heavy casualties it was a different story.
Oh, I suppose your point is that Thatcher should have caved in and allowed the Falkland Clearances to happen.Comment

I'm not arguing your wider point. I think it's all bollocks, either way, just like everything else in politics.
I would imagine, though, that the cost people complain about is actually buying something else that they've not spotted. More than just allowing the inhabitants to stay unmolested.
And what the feck point were you trying to put with that last paragraph? Try again but think through what it is you are trying to say first.Comment

As for Putin what would happen if he decided to invade Scotland? Given the logic shown here we should feel guilt for our colonial past and let him have the place along with all the whining "victims" of the SNP.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

Ther'll be no new war over the Falklands. Thanks to dave and his chums, the Armed Forces and especially the Royal Navy have been decimated and will not be able to mount a defence never mind re take them.
19 surface warship in active service and most of them are 15 years old or more. The only ship generally on active patrol around the Falklands tends to be a glorified fisheries protection vessel, HMS Clyde (and even that is leased to the friggin' Navy!).
The Army has 82,000 active soldiers, they could all fit inside Wembley Stadium and you'd still have 8,000 spare seats. 7 or 8 squadrons of planes, most of them antiquated Tornados.
