This thread is just dumb. Your confused because you asked the advice of a bunch of strangers on a situation we don't understand

    Seriously?? What did you expect?

Stay Permie.. your cuddly and warm there.

      What about?

Have you done the maths in order to understand how much of that great rate ends up in your pocket?

Have you worked out how to tell the missus that you'll be away all week?

Do you understand that you will have no money coming in for most likely the first 6-8 weeks?

Do you understand that you will have almost no notice period on the new gig?

Bear in mind that the rate you see is not what you will actually end up with in your pocket.

By the time you deduct Corporation Tax, Employers NI, Travel Costs and accountants fee's you will probably be taking home around 75% of the actual contract value.

If you go with an umbrella company that will drop to around 65%.

I know there are lots of schemes around that claim you can get 85%+ but I wouldn't touch them with your barge pole let alone one of my own.

500 mile round trip plus 4 nights in digs, budget for 2 grand a month.

I think when you subtract 24 grand off your gross, it won't be that attractive.

...and remember on Sunday afternoon, the though of a 250 mile journey will send you into a deep deep depression.

I happen to notice you got a grilling in another dumb thread you started asking basic questions then ignoring the advice etc....

            http://forums.contractoruk.com/gener...ntracting.html

Your not going to find any golden answers here and more likey to get piss take and duff advice.

To go contracting you have to run a business, make tough decisions, stand up for yourself. I see a 100% failure rate in all three areas here.

            Steer well clear IMHO.

Don't listen to these knobs, just pack in the sad permie little job and go contracting. That's exactly what I did. They just don't want the added competition. Go for it is my advice.

Stay perm, accept the contract, invoke substitution clause and put someone else in the role and pay them 75% of the rate and you can pocket the other 25%... oh because it's income that you personally didnt have to work for it's actually tax free..........

Thanks all for your advice, especially Fred Bloggs, I find his response somewhat inspiring.

Will make the decision in the next couple of hours, if anybody wishes to know the outcome let me know.

                  Thanks

Judging from that reply, you've already made your decision, just don't forget your cowboy outfit.
