Just looking back through my AirBnB history. Quite a trip down memory lane. First stay was October 2015 and I've done at least 6 years away from home using them.

Stayed in one in late December with no central heating or shower and had an old tin bath that had frost on it in the morning.
Had one cancel while I was driving down to Nottingham because police carried out a drugs raid on the house next door
Had to sleep on the couch because owner double booked with an offline booking
Curled up in the corner of the bed because the owners two cats took over the bed
Slept in the car because the code on the lockbox had changed and they hadn't updated their arrival blurb

When you pick the cheapest ones on the list these things are gonna happen. Great memories.
    if you're a masochist, perhaps.
    or from Yorkshire, alternatively.

Without wishing to continue the Four Yorkshireman theme, my last contract but one involved traveling from the Sussex coast to St Neots in Cambridgeshire once a week, which involved getting up at 0430 to catch the first train to London and getting home at nearly 2100.

i started with the luxury of laying in until 0500 but the Team Leader, Indian guy medically incapable of standing up to management, decided I needed to be in at 0900 as opposed to 0920. Not surprisingly they moved over to getting people in on FTC as opposed to Contractors as they were more controllable.

You cope, but I certainly wasn’t at my most productive that day, plus it kind of wipes out the night before.

So did you send them your photo after all?
Depending on where you live and where the client is, a 125 mile one way trip could take between 2 and 5 hours, but you’ve not given us the length of time for the journey, just a mileage.
If driving is not an option, and you don’t want to stay overnight, could you get a train?
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

I think the OP answered those questions in the first post:

            I assume that 250 miles (in the title) is a typo for 280 miles, i.e. 2 x 140.

Regarding the bus journey and walk, a folding bike might help. I.e. cycle from home to the nearest station, take it on the train(s), then cycle to the client's office. However, multiple changes can make it a "fragile" route, i.e. if one train is delayed then you might miss your connection, so 5 minutes could become 30 minutes.

GPWM, I should have focused on the detail rather than the title, and also maybe less on working out which userID they were using this time.

                What did your accountant say?

He had a negative bluety on a quackhandle and was quadraspazzed on a lifeglug.

I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.
