Accept a one off credit card payment

I need to accept a one-off credit card payment of a reasonable size dollar amount ($8000) from a US client - PayPal feels seem to be insane for this - the wise calculator seems to think I'd be £400 down, meaning I'd have to charge a £400 fee to the client.

Can anybody recommend an alternative service that you've got experience with?

They won't send it friends and family I take it?

Get them to purchase chips at a Casino and go pick them up, double up on the roulette and then cash them in.

Can they not buy you some bitcoin and send it over?

If it's for the business the £400 charges can be offset against CT so will be less of hit to your pocket?

I wish - you would not believe how bureaucratic what I'm trying to sort is!

Hmm, that's a fair point I hadn't considered though it's still a pretty high percentage. Wish they'd just bloody pay by bank transfer

This help How to take invoice payments with Stripe – FreeAgent ?

The issue you are going to have is that any US card transaction will have large 3% or so fees in Europe.

Can they pay into a US bank account - in which case Wise should be able to offer you an account.

Only if card is physically presented.

Otherwise it's a higher rate and higher again for none european cards.

Cheers all - just signed up to Stripe, which I have to say was pretty painless considering I want to receive USD to a USD bank account (Wise)

Looks like it'll indeed cost about 3%, so I'll bill them that and take the hit on any more

Seems very odd they'd insist on CC but assume there's details we don't need to know

You could tell them "if you insist on doing it this foolish way it's gonna cost you"? I don't even know how you accept a credit card payment!

I've seen similar in the past from US firms, you find a manager with a high expense limit and use a credit card as it bypasses a whole pile of bureaucracy...
