Did an interview and it was clear they had not even opened my CV.

2 days onsite in sunny Stevange.

Happens when there are too many candidates and they just stiffle through a load of standard questions looking for the right answers.

No signs of recovery from what I can see and I can imagine at least another 12mths of this. But that is if there ever will be a recovery.

It could be that, this is how it is now, a reality which we will have to endure.

Besides, it's not just about looking good in the office, it's about looking and feeling good full stop. Taking pride in one's appearance, seeing the birds on the train undressing you with their eyes. Lol.
You cant have lasted long at any high profile firm if you referred to women as 'birds'.

Why would you hire someone for a strategic position on a 3 month contract?

I have noticed that I get far fewer calls from agents but when I do they are engaging in a lot more smalltalk - as if they have nothing else to do.

I'm a contractor, I go in, see the project out then leave. It can be anything from 1 month to the one I just finished (3.5 years). I'm also from a generation when men were men so a bird is a bird in my book, but only if she's decent looking, otherwise she's a minger!

the perm hire is probably on gardening leave/non-compete and the previous CTO bailed or was 'escorted from the building by security'.

3 month role is to help ensure internal corporate governance checks dont fail i.e. they need a bum on a seat fast that wont burn the building down.

                  Probably that.

I was once brought in as an interim head of department for exactly this reason.
Unfortunately, the department had been headless for months and _was_ burning to the ground.

Great gig, I got to find and hire my successor.
Unfortunately, it didn't pay any more than the more usual grunt roles I take.

What is it about that? I really don't find much difference in rate between the senior technical leadership roles and architecture / development roles I get offered.

I thought roles at this level were considered office holders or something like that meaning they generally cannot be outside IR35.
