Read today about 6,000 IT workers being re-assessed at Lloyds tsb, not sure what to make of it.
Switching to survival mode seems like a reasonable approach tbh, keep the bare minimum to maintain your infra and sack the rest. There's no investment in most industries anyway, so the main thing on managing minds is cutting costs. If tulip hits the fan they will just hire on a consultancy for the interim and maybe re-hire some people at which point they will be able to get the same talent for half the money.

Well those 6000 means most will get culled replaced for cheaper to hire imports provided by the illegal providers who the UK government welcome with open arms FFS! Its jut not looking good for most of the UK born IT workforce tbh the writing is on the wall & absolutely no-one is doing anything at a political level to prevent the inevitable economic meltdown this will cause!

        Have to agree with this.

Can replace the permis with inside IR35, low rates to now have a flexible, cheap workforce. Without having to pay holidays, sick leave or redundancy payments should the business change.

The worst part is that immigration will support this. i.e. Cheap labour from outside being brought in.

Being highly skilled in IT is like being a quality bricklayer now, easily replaceable with multiple bodies.

I've been saying this for ages mass immigration has destroyed IT ....cheaper labour has been being brought in for a long while and we are sunk and no one is addressing it...

There was a review into the amount of IT visas but no idea if it progressed.

It was inevitable that Inside IR35 contracts were eventually going to be used as a way of employers (and I am happy calling them that when it comes to inside contracts) avoiding Employer NI contributions and any other responsibilities such as paid holidays.

Er, you cannot avoid ErNI on inside IR35 contracts... the tax position is intended to be the same as employment, by design. Precarious employment, sure.

Can't they pass it onto the contractor?

Yep its all designed to lower the employers costs that why they do not care until things go wrong in a big way!

Pension, holidays, sick pay etc etc all massive payroll overheads...employing bottom feeders eliminates all of those costs even though they are paying the outsourcer massive fees......!

It too late now its not going to change much if your in IT unless its a really niche role look to pivot to something else pronto as they are coming in such vast numbers few decent paying IT jobs will be left!

I agree it was finished ages ago they allowed way too many IT vistas should cancel the lot no shortage of skilled IT workers in the UK at all.....skilled IT workers who do not want to be exploited however is a another matter altogether!

In a few years it will become so obvious right now the government do not know or do not care enough to do something about it due to their stupid one sided deal with India........!

Cancel that agreement kick the lot out will be a positive start in the right direction but its not going to happen is it! When NI & Tax coffers have dropped drastically they might look up for a few mins to see what's going on LOL!
