Looking at Jobserve. Not even one new contract role in testing space in the UK posted today and only one in Europe. Absolutely grim.

Well we are not really the best group of candidates for AI positions now are we? knowing how to use ChatGPT isn't going to land you any work. And from what I gather any AI related work is maths heavy, so you do need people with big brains and who have been in AI for a while. How many of those do we have here? It's similar to work in specific industries where no previous exp means you most likely don't land jobs, pharma for example always loves ex-pharma people, or back in the old days O&G where it was uber hard to get into without previous O&G exp. Similar here, I doubt you'll land any work in AI if you've been writing web based software / apps for the last 10 years. If however, you've been doing a lot of software engineering specifically for AI then you are golden, for now at least. (and not moaning on this forum).Originally posted by SchumiStars View PostHow many people on this site have had AI based contracts?

Exactly. Those of us a few pages back, saying AI will be able to save loads of time and money and all the investment is coming are deluded.Originally posted by dsc View Post

It's going to take Stamford phds working for companies to actually get anything from it, if anything at all. And that investment is all pie in the sky ATM.
If companies are not investing in their current IT systems do you really believe they are going to invest millions into R&D for something which has no current ROI.
The last bank I was at was still running windows 7 in 2019. Banks are usually risk averse. And if they don't have any incline they are unlikely to invest into a VC without security.
I am not usually wrong. ATM, it's just my opinion but I guess we will find out in the next 18mths or so.

I've worked on multiple AI projects that delivered and a couple that didn't. Anything image based seems to work well.Comment

I know a couple of people working in AI and these are PHD types with brains the size of planets super bright it is not something you just pick up ....
Aside from that the market is grim nothing out there....when will this end?
Have news on in the background and latest ONS figures are predicting UK population going to grow to 72.5m by 2032, 500k per year mainly through immigration...why don't they stop visas?? It is utter madness...Comment

Eventually AI will spawn real world applications that will need integrating and some work might come off the back of that.Originally posted by Cookielove View PostI know a couple of people working in AI and these are PHD types with brains the size of planets super bright it is not something you just pick up ....

I'm not sure you need a phd and a fancy uni on your cv to get a job in AI, but you probably need to have some ex-AI exp in order to be considered. Also just because you or others in this forum don't have those skills / experience, doesn't mean there won't be jobs in AI and investment and something to get back in return. Also just because you don't know much about a subject, doesn't mean it's tulip and pointless...Originally posted by SchumiStars View PostExactly. Migration won't stop as it brings families and kids, without kids you'll end up with a dying population and no one to support the retirement budgets. Now clash this with a bunch of contractors moaning that they can't jobs and guess what wins.Originally posted by Cookielove View Post[...]

I've got a HND from the worst University in the country and have still been able to build models and integrate with various AI outputs.
You can build most models with a few lines of code, it's understanding the problem and shaping the data that is difficult.
I've also worked at a couple of top UK Universities and at one I'd say 30% of people in my team had a PhD, they were the worst coders imaginable.Comment
