I have a niche skill which is in demand but I am finding the majority of roles are now full time or "associate" which basically means inside IR35.

Not looking good in the long run...

        Very Dry out there

After many years of contracting and dealing with many "interesting" people i decided to take a year out (a sabbatical), did some travelling but mainly pursued charity work abroad. Been amazing and wouldn't change a thing :-D

But I have been back now for a few weeks and the market has been dead, i'm hardly getting any calls. I had one role lined up but the budget was pulled a couple days before I was due to start.

Have had a few calls but hasn't lead to anything concrete. Also getting the annoying calls from redroc fishing for leads with fake roles. Normally a very positive guy but with all the talks of recession in the states.....this feels like more than just a quiet period down to summer holidays.

In a down turn the contract market always gets hit first and I get the feeling it will get worse brexit or no brexit.

Had a couple of tickles this week that may or may not come to something.

Well after a lengthy flatlined period, I recently ended up with 2 choices, & just accepted one of them today. Role availability depends on your specialism, & demand for that specialism; in my area (non-tech) things seem to have picked up, surprisingly. Just hang in there guys, your turn will come, I assure you. Everything comes to he/she who waits; just need patience, which I know is a very easy thing to say, & difficult to live through on a daily basis, but it's true. Good luck all.

And traditionally mid Nov is dead I find with the run up to Christmas. Going to keep plugging away at it. The worst part is dealing with recruiters/pimps/sharks...had an 'interview' lined up which was mysteriously cancelled after I didn't sign the opt out form.

Finally - post bank holiday - at the very least some calls have been coming in.
