Really? I had an email a while back from someone who seemed to talk the talk, knew the role fairly well and introduced himself as a senior recruiter in his sig LinkedIn profile said the same. Dug a little deeper and six months earlier he was selling sporting goods....

Truly the best thing about getting out of the game was not having to deal with cowboys any more!
    Blog? What blog...?

I don't really get the 'how are you finding the market' type requests anymore. It's like the agencies are so broke and for the very little roles out there, it's not worth them paying the increased minimum wage for those type of people, which I guess in many ways is a good thing!

The problem was identified a few pages back, both you and cookie need to sell everything and move around to where the work is. The writing was on the wall ten years ago for the London contracting market having a house or property in London is the millstone around your necks that is stopping you.

Unless there are sweeping tax cuts, ir35 removal and regulatory adjustments, London's goose is cooked.

You need to get out and take a risk.

Just been rejected for a developer position at a Formula One team because my salary expectations were too high!

Maybe they should stop pissing champagne up the wall and changing tyres every five minutes if they want to be able to afford top talent?

I love Formula1 but would never work for any of the teams. You have to really, really love the sport and by that it means you are basically working for minimum wage against high expectations.

One of the mechanics at one of the bigger teams said that hours vs pay, he gets paid less than McDs. But he loves it.

Right, need to get a German phone number sorted. Let's see what happens trying to be more proactive.

I have also reached out to previous colleagues from 20yrs ago to organize a reunion of sorts. Gonna be a bit weird and yes some of them were weird at the time but let's see what comes of it. At the worst, it may mean a few lamb chops at tayyabs I suppose.

One of the up sides of my current situation is people I worked with decades ago getting in touch with opportunities they have seen.

This would fit in with the "How low can you go?" thread, and my calculations there:
How Low Can You Go? - Contractor UK Bulletin Board

The national living wage (21 and over) is £12.21/hour, so if you're working 8 hours a day then that's £97.68/day, and this is slightly above it.

I assume there's no umbrella involved, otherwise their fee and the apprenticeship levy would drop you below minimum wage.
