Agency asking for laptop log-in details following termination

After leaving a gig (following giving notice) 5 days ago my agency has contacted me to say the end client has a query with laptop password and needs it to get in. In all the contracts I've had this has never been asked of me before after leaving. To be honest I've forgotten the log-in details now anyway. Has anyone else experienced this?

Not from agency but from client's security dept. For this reason I always change my password to something I never use anywhere else on my last day. I always clean up the Laptop as much as possible to avoid any private stuff hanging around in temp folders and browser history etc.

State that the clients SysOps policy which you agreed to adhere to prevents you from disclosing your password to anyone, suggest the client resets the password though AD if they need access

That is information between you and the client, the agency should not be involved in the client's security policies. Of course, if you really left the client in the lurch, they might just insist on going through the agent.

My advice? Contact the client directly and politely and professionally assist them. Once the issue is resolved, let the agent know. If the agent gets annoyed, tell them that the client security policy prohibited you from divulging the information to them.

I assume you did a full handover so it seems an odd request - wouldn't they just reinstall the machine for safety's sake if nothing else?

I don't even have admin rights on the machine I'm using here...
