Just the fact you are an over paid contractor is enough to get the permie backs up. Being a arrogant tit on top of that really isn't going to work well is it.

I've never understood why people don't care about pissing people off when it's totally avoidable and unnecessary, it's not big or cleverOriginally posted by seanraaron View PostIt's all about context. Big office, far from managers, one permie; don't care about pissing him off. But yes, tact is important, I'll acknowledge that.
Maybe you don't understand but the reality is they do get worked up\take an interest. Remember also you are the incomer not them.Originally posted by seanraaron View PostHahaha. I've never understood people who get all worked up about other people's business, whether it's marking their comings and goings or whatever. My job doesn't really have anything to do with them, so they have no cause to feel anything about what I get up to. There are many reasons why people could have funny hours or be taking phone calls, just get on with your own work, says I!Comment

It's not very British. It's the kind of thing a Yank would do, Trumping their presence everywhere.…Maybe we ain’t that young anymoreComment

Don't hate me because I've got brass and you don't.Originally posted by WTFH View PostIt's not very British. It's the kind of thing a Yank would do, Trumping their presence everywhere.
Anyway I don't get up in people's faces. Taking a phone call shouldn't be a big problem for anyone. You're doing your job and trying to get the next one. Seems fair - after all they're not setting your hours, right?Comment

Having brass and being arrogant are very different things.Originally posted by seanraaron View PostDon't hate me because I've got brass and you don't.

I may walk a line between confidence and arrogant, but I'm selling my labour here and that's already a pretty cynical situation to be in. I'm not going to put pretty flowers on it and keep my head down because it's "professional" any more than I'm going to wear a tie.Originally posted by northernladuk View PostHaving brass and being arrogant are very different things.

I don't hate you, behave how you like, just don't moan if you find most of your contracts have an atmosphere\tension about them.Originally posted by seanraaron View PostDon't hate me because I've got brass and you don't.

On that note I'm done. All the advice given that points how you can do all these things and still be a professional has fallen flat here. You must be totally correct as you have bigger cojones than us. Fill your boots.Originally posted by seanraaron View PostI may walk a line between confidence and arrogant, but I'm selling my labour here and that's already a pretty cynical situation to be in. I'm not here to give people therapy or help them cross the street. I small talk people at the tea kettle like anyone else, but there are limits as to how far I'm willing to bend. If I need to line up another job and the time I have available is company time, so be it. They're not paying me for sick leave or holidays so whatever.Originally posted by gables View PostI've never understood why people don't care about pissing people off when it's totally avoidable and unnecessary, it's not big or clever
