Gammon DOOM: Wetherspoons runs out of beer thanks to Brexit
If the shortage isn't due to Brexit, then why aren't European drivers now coming over to take advantage of the higher rates?
Because there is a shortage on the continent as well? They went home for Covid now they are driving in Germany & France.
ONS figures suggest 18,000 EU drivers went home. The other missing 82,000 drivers is complaining about is because people don't want to drive Class 1 for minimum wage.
Also, Germany has 1.5million truck drivers, the UK has 516,000, so the UK shortage is about 12%, and the German shortage is about 3%
So, while 58% of the UK RHA questioned blamed Brexit, 53% said that the problem with getting agency drivers was IR35. Not quite the spin you put on it.
The last article is quite revealing, as 53% of respondents blamed IR35, which is quite understandable.
Yes there is a driver shortage in many countries, but only in the UK the shops are half empty
Versions of IR35 (and much stricter in many cases) do exist in other countries as well

I haven't noticed any half-empty shops, but I expect that to change if the eco-numpties continue to block our motorways at will.
His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...

Really? Our local Waitrose has had half empty shelves for the past couple of months, especially fresh fruit and veg areas. I normally use Sainsburys for delivery every couple of weeks, and I never get a full order - most orders have 10+ replacements or no replacement at all.
