By the end of the day we'll know if TM is serious about a proper Brexit.

Assuming she loses the vote big time, if she immediately requests a dissolution and a general election so the next Government won't be in place until after the deadline, then a managed WTO deal will be the outcome and we can conclude she is serious.

But if not then it's all a big con and we'll probably never properly leave (and as a result the Tories will be slaughtered at the election).

        It an interesting idea though.
If May steals Corbyns thunder and calls a general election. After All her political career is toast so why not try and take a few with you on the way out. What would happen wrt A50? Would we affect my be leaving without a deal or is there still a mechanism to delay it after she calls a GE. Also if A50 cannot be stopped what would the Labour party and Libels for that matter manifesto be with regard to the EU given that we will have left before the GE.

        So many questions

          WGAS?

The world isn't going to stop revolving, I'll deal with it in the morning.

Indeed not least of which is whether anyone truly believes Corbyn would win the election - as if we assume not enough people are mad enough to vote for him then what Tories get in again? who will be PM - would it still be May?

She has already stated that she would not lead the tories into the next GE. So how she would square that particular circle I'm not sure.

I would suggest that May just might be a little jaded, this whole "PM" thing looks a bit exhausting to me, she must be absolutely knackered.

As long as we don't live in "inneresting" times, I think we can proceed.

I'm fine with any of the conceivable unicorns of d00m that the "clever meanies" might devise, except for Old Greg's unicorns, because their manes are too fluffy.

Main thing to watch for tonight is the union of votes across all of the fantasy brexit options posited by the amendments to the main motion (particularly the Murrison amendment). If this union of votes is within, say, 50 votes of attracting a majority, then May will proceed on the basis that she can eventually get her fantasy brexit over the line. In other words, "nothing has changed" for another few weeks while she "renegotiates".

AFAIK thre is no requirement for the EU to care about our politics, A50 stipulates we leave on 29.3. But in the real world it's reasonable to expect they would agree to a delay in case of a new government.

As to how a new government would fare, who can possibly tell.

I still think a grand coalition is a good option which then dissolves into a GE once agreement is reached. But this sounds far too practical to ever happen.
